Plenty smart and powered with personality and spirit, Whiskers is much more than that.
having faith in humanity, home was a community garden.
patient and spreading kindness, He simply needed to feel safe, belong, have a real home.

Chrissy named him Whiskers.
She changed it as his previous random names were ill-conceived and will go unmentioned. She wondered what the other gardeners were thinking naming such as magnificent cat such pedestrian names, but I digress. From then on Whiskers responded anew to his distinguished name with obvious pride ever after.
A grand tuxedo cat, a big exotic black and white boy. Long luxurious white whiskers popped against his furry face. His white paws, chest, and nose glistened against black velveteen.
Some say the world’s too big, too cold, even un-moored. I cannot disagree with that assessment from time to time however I am certain and confident of one thing, we are all better off in a world with Whiskers in it. If he, a humble cat, can be an ambassador of love and good vibes why not venerate greatness of spirit wherever we find it, including with each of us? If he can fix us up with a tall glass of inspiration, a cup of hope, and a sugarcane field full of sweetness, I say, “Bring on the spotlight!” We need more of that please! Whiskers has fortitude and grit we can all admire!
See his pictures and video link at the end that stand as proof positive of his worldly bearing and kind nature. This story isn’t about Whiskers versus the world, it’s Whiskers being embraced by the community. A beloved community garden cat doing the best he can showing his love to his garden family and his garden family showing love back.
Most of us feel connected when we enjoy a sense of community and appreciate the quiet and small everyday things. Same thing with all animals large and small. Signs of life are easy to overlook when we stay in our own bubble. We are stronger together, part of a great patchwork that connect us all creating life-force full of positive energy.
Sharing our common home earth gives us a sense of belonging and mutual fellowship if we choose to recognize it. If we look for it we see it takes only the slightest effort. Whiskers greatest desire after his whole world collapsed, was just to be seen again. (Read Whisker’s, the Origin Story post)
We are not always available mentally to catch the small dramas going on all around us. We don’t see them because we don’t have time to make the time. Unless it happens directly in front of us, we pass it by just. It takes a moment to take in the myriad, mundane, and magnificent small-worlds around us, or we become blind to it. Observation takes time, a commodity in short supply in a supercharged-paced society. Nature and her creatures are literally everywhere around us, even in big cities.
We are lucky when we experience, witness, interact, and commune with life’s phantasmagoria living thing of every color, shape, and size. We gain perspective. Instead of glancing awareness. We pass over life. But we are all part of an interlocking system. A natural world. We are part of the natural world. A system that has taken millions of years to form and support life long before we existed and much of it will still will be around long after we are gone.
Just as Whiskers’ brethren and sisterhood before him gathered around ancient human agricultural enclaves to earn their keep by catching rodents and a watchful eye at night, the same DNA is at play in the modern-day cat world. Whiskers garnered attention in the garden with his captivating presence. But earned his keep in the community by his intelligent and kind vibe that nurtured the garden community. Cat and human alike by employ the same trade craft thousands of years old. Catching rodents protect the food supply and humans protecting cats, a simple yet symbiotic exchange bringing calm and order out of chaos for millennia.
