The other thing he is a searcher, a thoughtful philosopher. All this non-stereotypical right-brained stuff not normally associated with astronauts. One may be super creative and an astronaut but none come to mind doing a nice acoustic set from space.
Hadfield’s memoir covers his childhood in Canada and a big dream he never gave up on. The odds were so remote to become an astronaut for anybody are astronomical. But for a Canadian, even more remote per the way seats are allocated to go to the International Space Station. Let’s set that aside for moment. All that over-achievement, drive, tenacity, and luck that he needed. It’s not about that. It’s about the wisdom he gained living in space a half year. Insight that he needed to share. Few who write books make money but Hadfield probably defied the odds there as because the video below received 52M views and can’t be bad for sales.
But he didn’t make the video or write the book for more notoriety. He wanted to shine a spotlight on taking stock of his life’s journey and inspire the world how to set your mind to achieve whatever you need to do in life and make a difference in some way the world around you a better place . He’s a spiritualist. What you want out of life isn’t as important as what you need to put into life. As suggested in the book’s subtitle “WHAT GOING TO SPACE TAUGHT ME ABOUT INGENUITY, DETERMINATION, AND BEING PREPARED FOR ANYTHING.”
He would not be denied and the world is a better place for it!
